1. Dentist visit, X-ray, Extraction (Top was regular extraction, bottom was surgical extraction)
I visited Smile Central Clinic (Jurong), they have 3 other outlets and I managed to make a booking for extraction just the day before.
Wisdom tooth surgery cost: $950
Wisdom tooth surgery additional cost (Meds, consultation, etc.): $300
Wisdom tooth extraction cost: $150
Wisdom tooth surgery cost was covered by Medisave. They got me to login on the spot to print the statement, sign a form, and it was done. In total, I paid $248 for the extraction of both wisdom teeth. ($150 for extraction plus GST, and then the GST for Wisdom tooth surgery.)
Wisdom tooth extraction duration: Slightly less than 10 mins to remove both (1 surgical extraction 1 normal extraction)
Wisdom tooth extraction medical leave: 4 days (Typically 3 to 5 days) - My brother had 8 days for 2 surgical extractions cause his was still hidden under his gums
Extraction process: Take an X-ray to determine positioning of wisdom teeth, discussion with dentist, and then extract on the spot. I was shaking, and felt nauseous even before the dentist did anything :( He then injected several jabs of anesthesia, waited for a couple of minutes to test the numbness, and then he proceeded to extract both teeth, then did a final X-ray to make sure its all out. I closed my eyes the entire time, but checked the timing on my phone when I texted my friend before and after the extraction and it was between 10 mins. Even the receptionists were surprised. It usually takes longer I guess.
2. Anesthesia wearing off
They prescribed me with Synflex/ Naproxen for painkillers, but I don't normally take meds so I decided to ensure the discomfort. The anesthesia started wearing off about 3 - 4 hours after the extraction and it was uncomfortable :( But read up on the side effects of taking painkillers and maybe like me, you'll decide to endure the discomfort since we won't die from it.
3. Day 1 to 3 of recovery
My brother said his cheeks started swelling only on the 2nd and 3rd day, but surprisingly, mine didn't swell :D
4. Removal of stiches
Background story:
My bottom right wisdom tooth has been annoying me and I initially booked for an appointment with the dental clinic that did my braces, but changed my mind to get one near my house so I can head home and wallow in pain immediately after, but changed my mind again to go to one which my colleague recommended. 2 colleagues recommended for me to go with a male dentist so he has more strength to pull the tooth out. I'm not sure how true that is but yeah.
The weekend before I extracted it at Smile Dental Clinic (Jurong), I made an appointment with Greenlife Dental Clinic (Yew Tee) and got my X ray done. The X ray with consultation costed me $75 and there wasn't an option for me to extract it on the spot. On a positive note, the dentist went through with me on the various complications - it being close to the sinus line which may cause what I drink to come out of my nose, that the tooth might have a hook but having a small bit of teeth in the gums shown to not affect, etc. based on the X ray results. She also shared how many days of MC I'll get, depending on whether its a normal extraction or surgery so I can plan in advance. Maybe that's why I was charged the consultation fee.
